Chris Minh Doky and friends... and Duné

Within five days I went to two concerts. Both were great, but very different from each other.

As predicted I was definiteley among the seniors at the Duné concert. More than one third were teenagers, one third were my age and the last group were parents. The frontsinger (Mattias) made that pretty clear at the end, when he thanked the paretns for bringing all their pretty daughters ;o) However, it was quite a good gig. They were very professionel, Mattias had a great voice and there was so much energy in the music and performance. Watching Mattias, he most of all reminded me of a young Mick Jagger...

Chris Minh Doky was fantastic. I had no expectations as I was invited just a few hours before the concert started. The band was great. They went from playing quiet jazz with long solos, to playing very funky music. Especially the guitarist, Hiram Bullock, was quite cool and entertaining and stole the spotlight for a while, when he shook his body among the audience during a solo. Both Johnson, Kasper Winding and Søs Fenger joined the band for a few songs as well. It was first, but definiteley not last time, I went to see Chris Monh Doky.

When I surfed my favourite gossip webpage this morning, perezhilton, I had to laugh, when I saw the "Separated at Birth" post. As I watched the Oscar show the other evening, I couldn't help but noticing John Travoltas hair... did he really spray on his hair?? I have seen quite a few adds for that lately (among others on facebook, named something as cool as Toppik -in danish that means something with dick). Apparently that is something people do. My first thought was that JT looked a lot like my old doll "bimse" (aka Monchichi) -apparently I was not the only one having those thoughts.

I just bought myself some nice new frames in Urban Outfitters, and I love them. I thought I would try to be creative in the nearby future and make something graphical, since that is what I do for a living. The inspiration is there but I haven't had the time yet. Until then, this nice young man from a magazine and my gift wrapping paper will adorn the frames...

Yesterday a friend and I attended a "Detox your Life"-presentation, and it kind of blew my mind. I already knew that there is a connection between the food you consume and the diseases or other inconveniences you may suffer from. The actual eye opener was discovering how certain food like sugar affects your mood, and how your personality and what you are most likely to eat, is connected. I know, trying to summarise it makes it sound just a tad odd and alternative, but in short, detox is not so much about food, as it is about personal development and simplifying your life by letting go of things, food, habits and people, that are no good for you. Very interesting. However, attending a course, whice takes one and a half year, is a bit expensive, but I will probably start the individual course, which is not as intensive -and expensive.

They say the first step is self-awareness, and I admit: I have been totally addicted to everything that has to do with Heath Ledger, since I learned of his tragic death tuesday the 22nd of January around 11 pm, when Hovesan texted me the tragic news. I just can't stop reading about him, examine photos of him, and watching Interviews with him. Soon I'm having a Heath Ledger movie memorial night as well with a friend of mine. Hopefully I can let it go, when they determine what caused his death.
Today I just came across these sweet photos of Heath and his x-fiancé and mother of their child, Michelle Williams, and were they just the cutest couple or WHAT??
I guess this all reminds me of a sad Hollywood-movie with no happy ending, and my heart is bleeding... Normally I find those happy-ending movies too transparent and unimportant, but in real life I wish we could all live happily ever after...

In Memory of Heath Ledger

The death of Heath Ledger one week ago, has really had a deep impact on me. It is very difficult for me to handle death in general, but when it comes to young people dying all of a sudden, I find life very unfair, and it is almost impossible to try to justify something like that. It doesn't help, when it's someone as cute and talented as Heath! The funny thing is, I know much more about Heath now, than before he died, after having read several of touching tributes to the deceased actor (I guess it is true, that in order to achieve full recognition as an artist, you have to die). I also watched quite a few interviews with him, and he seemed like such a fine, creative and thoughtful person (I admit, it's getting out of hand, because I also dreamt of him several of times lately, and after reading a touching obituary, I also cried a few tears).
I just cannot comprehend, that there will never ever be another Heath, or anyone else that dies for that matter. We are all unique, which is why every life is so precious, and which is why it's so not fair, when someone is "missing out on" half a life, not to mention the surviving relatives, who have to live with the grief for the rest of their lives...

This is so sad... The talented and handsome actor Heath Ledger has passed away only 28 years old. It is believed he died of a drug overdose or suicide. Apparently he suffered from depression and was a substance abuser. This really makes me wonder, why there is so many drug-related deaths in Holywood? Less than a week ago the actor Brad Renfro (known among others from Sleepers and The jacket) died from an overdoze, Ike Turned overdozed a month ago, my favourite comedian Owen Wilson attempted suicide in August (he is also a drug-addict and suffers from depression), and almost a year ago Anna Nicole Smith died from an overdoze of Sleeping Medication. Rapper Pimp C is just one of a couple of american rappers, that suffered drug-related deaths within the last year, Kurt Cobain comitted suicide in the 90'es (on my Birthday actually), and Michael Hutchence and his girlfrind Paula Yates both died within a year in consequence of drug-addictions and depressions.

Lately the press has written Britneys obituary just in case, and stars like Lindsay Lohan, Kate Moss, Pete Doherty, Robert Downey Jr., Kelly and Jack Osbourne and Amy Winehouse are all well known for their drug adddictions and countless of stays at rehad facilities.

What goes wrong, is celebrity life really that unbearable? Are many artists just sensitive people and therefore a high-risk group? Do they soothe their depressions with alcohol and drugs, or in contrary, do they get suicidal from the drug-abuse? Is the massive pressure from a life in public, with complete surveillance from paparazzies and the public, too much for most people to handle? Are the drugs (too) common and easy to access in the celeb environment? Is it the lonely life of a star, where everybody wants a piece of you, no one can be trusted and your "friends" will rat out on you and reveal obscene details from your private life to make some fast money? Is it a lifestyle with too much money, where everything is achievable and available, but nothing is ever enough anymore? Well, I don't know... but I fear for the next death of a Hollywood star, and it will happen!

A few days ago Danish statistics announced the most popular names of 2007, and my niece, Matilde, can be very content, because her name was the most popular name for girls last year. For the boys' part, Mikkel went from second in 2006 to the top spot in 2007. Congrats to you!

Unfortunately there is no top chart without a list of the opposite as well. Little was I surprised to find my name, Bettina, as one of the most unpopular names last year. I never really liked Bettina, but it doesn't help, that every Stand-up'er, radio shows or movies, that has a slut, promiscuous or cheap tart of a girl in their show, is ALWAYS named Bettina. I often considered to add another name to Bettina like Bettina-Sofia or Bettina-Olivia or anything really, hoping to remove focus from Bettina to the other name, but then me and my friends wouldn't be able to make so much fun of my name, and I wouldn't miss out on that...

6579 (plus 5281 spelled with just one "t") other danish girls share my name-destiny. I wonder how busy they keep the "numerologs" (what's the english word?). In 2006 one more girl was called Bettina than in 2007, so a Bettina either died or changed her name... If you spell your name with just one "t" it looks really bad, since there is 16 girls less in 2007 compared to 2006. At least two girls were named Bettina in 2006 compared to zero spelled with just one "t". Fortunately I can be happy about having a better name than just plain Betina with one "t", HA!

Tribeca -in Copenhagen

Recently I went dining at Tribeca NV -a cool, new restaurant in the North West of Copenhagen. Normally I try to avoid the area, because I find it dull, gloomy, industrial, depressing and with no charm at all. I never thought it had the potential to become a new and upcoming hip area. However, after visiting Tribeca NV, I see the neighbourhood in a different light. I really loved the restaurant, which was a very cool New Yorker kinda restaurant with super cool interior decoration. Though the service was a bit slow and the menu-card could be better, I'll definitely go again, and I'll cross my fingers that the brave restaurant managers will survive despite the fact that they are first, and I hope they will inspire others to believe in Copenhagen NV as well... -selfishly also because I live very nearby ;o)

I never really liked pork, it tastes like the smell of a pigsty, and that ain't good! To make bad worse, someone apparently tried to make it look more appetizing (or stupid, so that you would forget about the bad taste) by boring a stick all the way through it's fat body from mouth to ass and hang it over a grill. Apparently it's the delicious way to serve it at get-togethers today, but it certainly doesn't make my mouth water, at all!
I always considered pigs to be very funny animals to watch with lots of personality, and it deserves a more worthy way to end it's life than being humiliated like that. The least we could do is cover up it's face so it won't be recognized... However, looking at the top photo, I sense that there is more to it's quirky little smile and it's eyes screwed up tightly, than we think, so maybe it got the last word afterall...

I was very sad to read the today's news... One of the best comic actors, Owen Wilson, has tried to commit suicide. All though comedians not necessarily are the happiest people in real life, I cannot believe it. I'm so glad his brother found him in time. Jesus, I'm hoping to watch so much more funny movies with him in the future, so Owen, please get well soon....

Recently I got two new friends -Ejnar and Pølse (Pølse means sausage, I guess you can figure out by looking at the photos, which one is Pølse)... Pølse was really lazy, but when it came to food, it turned into an eager little tracker dog that would detect anything in a large area. Ejnar, on the other hand, was an energetic and nervous little wrack, that speeded unstoppable around on it's extremely skinny little legs... Dogs are such a laugh!

During Spring most tabloids have had several of front covers of half-naked girls on the beach, predicting an awesome summer -they do that every year, to put breasts on the cover, because that's selling newspapers, but never have they been sooo wrong! Except for a few days with sun and high temperatures, it has been dark and rainful for weeks. These photos above pretty much summarize the weather. Luckily my friend has a car, so we cruised around one Saturday afternoon watching wet people and drinking smoothies -not too bad actually!!

Recently I passed "Bryggen" on my bike, the weather was great and these guys were about to jump in the harbour! I don't know how high the bridge is, but it sure looked higher standing on top of it, watching the guys jump, than watching the photos afterwards... Though it looked fun, I wouldn't do it (I did my bungy-jump many years ago, so let's just say I've been there, done that, and never doing anything like that again!). Another thing, last time I watched some other guys jumping from the same bridge, they got quite a fine, as a couple of policemen waited for them, when they got back on the bridge...

This is good news! I haven't really watched TV the last two weeks, so I totally overlooked the one thing, that can totally influence the next 24 Mondays of my life!! The pool was cold, but worked as intended as we went from sauna to pool to steam bath to pool. Cold/warm showers is supposed to be soooo healthy and detoxing. Honestly I prefer something in between, but I sure felt healthy...

Uhmmm 1 hour of massage. The girl had marvellous hands... I wanted to take them home with me...

Don't forget your swimwear, just don't. Since we were all alone, we had fun picking the worst looking outfits -less fun when people started arriving one hour later! You cannot really hide wearing as little as that.

Well well... I have never... As you know, I have for a while fought with Nokia Mobile over my Nokia 6280 -a battle I had to loose regardless of the fact that I had a good case! BUT... today they called me and finally admitted, that they couldn't provide proof that the phone had water damage, which has been their argument for not repairing it so far. Being on a diet these days (not so much this weekend though), I've recently read and learnt about food to understand it's function in a wider context, and I've discovered that food is not just to stop you from being hungry (for real or for fun). Feeding your body with lots of wrong things such as food filled with preservatives and additives, takes away (among other things) precious energy from your body. Also the body needs the different vitamins to function optimum... Anyway, I could write so much about this subject with my newly acquired knowledge, but I won't... for now. But in the future I'll ask the food, before stuffing it in my mouth: "What can you do for me?", and if the answer is absoulteley nothing, I'll try not to eat it...
That probably means goodbye to all the colourful candy pictured above...

How to become a crisp and delicious little basilica

When I returned from my vacation yesterday, I found my (normally so crisp and bursting with health looking) basilica in fragile condition. It looked old, faint and worn out. I was ready to bin it but decided to give it lots of water instead...

...and look how well it recovered!!

Recently I've consulted various alternative therapists, and everything points in direction of one thing: If I don't take action now, I'll end up like my basilica, old, worn out and fainting like a flower, as Roxette sang decades ago... (I loved that song, little did I know, that it would be my cruel destiny years later). Anyway... to restore the balance in my body I've decided to start the recommended treatment, which basically means no sugar (inkl. fruit), wheat flour, alcohol, caffeine, pork, beef, milk products and pasta. In short, everything that I like. But no need to panic, I can have (actually it's highly recommended) lots of water, garlic and Aloe vera Juice...

I love juice, so that part didn't sound too bad, which is why I bought 5 litres of the Aloe vera juice all at once, only to discover, that it tastes like s***. OMG! But I'm willing to try, since I want to be the crisp and delicious little basilica.
I started today, but apparently I already had a few things that are no go's! Luckily it doesn't count, because I didn't know. Hee hee...
I'll let you know how it goes...

Extended weekend in a summercottage

OMG! Never have I been as soaked from biking through town, as I was today. Even my underwear was wet. Only my favourite ballerina shoes ran clear of any water due to two plastic bags. Felt much nicer than rubber boots, but less practical (and not too cool looking either).

The weather forecasters had actually promised a fantastic summer (partly due to climatic change), but I guess the climatic changes haven't really gotten to Denmark yet, because not since June 1946 have we had this much rain in June. Actually we had just 1 mm. more rain in 2007 than in 1946. What a sad record! And it will continue... fortunateley we also had more sunshine in June than normally, I guess we must have some sort of climatic changes after all....

Trailer Park festival

After being hungover the entire Saturday, I was up for some fun Sunday. Went to Madeleines Madteater where the "Trailer Park festival" showed to be the perfect thing to do. Good music, good company, a couple of beers in the sun and lots of people-watching (I believe the dress code was unofficially the 80'ies, which is such a fun decade, when it come to fashion). Unfortunately the main attraction, Trentemøller, had cancelled, because he was offered to play at the christening of the royal family's little princess, which had taken place the same day.

He will be playing at VEGA in November where I got tickets, so I guess it was kinda okay...

Nokia 6280 has deceased. She was born with several of severe medical conditions, and throughout a year I have unsuccessfully fought with 3 Mobile and Nokia Mobile for help. Three weeks ago she suddenly fell seriously ill again and I admitted her to Nokias Care Center -the outcome was fatal! They simply denied to help her. The expenses should have been funded by their own insurance policy, but somehow they managed to get round the payment, due to an insignificant detail in the course of disease. Just like that... the worst thing is that she had many good years left in her...

The corpse has been sent to my (our) home and I'll make sure to give her a decent funeral... O.M.G. Why? WHY? WHY??!

Saturday was JT-day! Justin Timberlake played in Copenhagen. We were seven with tickets and we were all very excited. Unfortunately he did not meet our expectations to the full.

Well, of cause Justin is Justin, and he is the new King of Pop, but his top charts hits and his dance moves could not make up for the bad and hollow sound in the arena and the square-shaped scene in the middle. The consequence of the four-sided scene was that instead of being able to see him all along, 1/4 of the audience, no matter what way he turned, would "only" see his (sexy)back. And with giant screens in only two coners, you always had to turn your back to the stage, to actually see him. Furthermore there were too many unknown, silent (read: boring) songs, played on the piano...

However, the worst part was when Timberland DJ'ed for 30 min., which was a medley of songs, that he had produced for others. Max. 10 seconds of each song was played before he would interrupt saying: "Put your hands up in the air" or "Copenhagen make some noise". Reminded me of that horrible concert with Busta Rhymes last year... Why didn't they just announce 30 minutes break instead? Anyway... despite my negative review, it was definitely fun to see Justin live and he does have som funky hits as well and he sure knows how to shake his... sexyback!

Bananas before the concert... should prevent you from going to the toilet every 10 minutes... Didn't really work. Maybe there is a limit for how many beers one banana can actually keep in your body?

Weekend get-away

Last weekend I went to Majorca for three days with my job. I thought it would be too much time spent on transport, flying, and waiting in the airport by comparison with the limited time to actually enjoy the vacation, but I was wrong. Within three days I did everything, that I would normally want to do on a vacation; shopping, sightseeing, reading, relaxing by the pool, going to the beach, going out, and eating on nice restaurants... and I was totally relaxed doing it. No stress! Furthermore I came home after what felt like a week feeling fully charged and fight for fight (well... first I had to catch up with lack of sleep, since that was the only thing I didn't get much of).
I can totally recommend a small trip out of the country on long weekends.
However, it's worth considering that air travel is very polluting, and the more we're flying, the worse it gets...

Today my brother sent me some photos of my adorable two nieces, that I unfortunately see very rare, because of the distance. Last time I saw them was in the beginning of December, where I looked after them for a weekend. Since then they have grown a lot. The other evening Hovesan and I kick started the outside bar life visiting a few outdoor bars in my neighborhood. We agreed to do another tour of "bike-bar-crawl around Copenhagen's beach/dock/harbor bars and joints" this summer. Once the weather is really good.
Above is Hovesan at Bodega enjoying a glass of whitewine a la Hovesan (with a slice of lime). Bodega has eveningsun until late, apart from that it's a great bar.

I'm crazy about dogs, I think I posted something about that earlier. Look at this cosy dog chilling on a bench on a warm day in New York with it's owner -one leg hanging from the bench! Cute...

In Brooklyn I passed a shelter for homeless dogs. They were either curious or very keen on contact with humans -maybe both. They all ran to the window looking at me with pleadingly big brown eyes, and with energetically wagging tails... I felt they tried to say to me: "Take me home". But that could just be my interpretation. Or maybe it was my own desire: "Come home with me" ... Anyway. If I should ever have a dog, I would do as Santa Angelina Jolie and adopt a homeless dog instead of, well, obviously not having my own, but having it from birth...

Recently I received this little tomato plant as a gift... It appeared small and weak and I didn't predict it a long future in my home... BUT! Not only did it grow strongly and survived eight hot days directly in the sun with no water, furthermore it has totally delivered the goods in the shape of small, green tomatoes!! Mama is so proud... and takes all the credit despite the fact, that I would SOOO have lost custody, if there were any vegetable social services...

Recently I have become acquainted with the phenomenon "Toe Cleavage". I never heard of that before, but apparently it's something that is discussed in different forums on the Internet -hot or not??? I think NOT! Somehow it sounds all wrong in my ears to put Toe and Cleavage in the same sentence. There is definitely nothing sexy about that kind of cleavage!! However, the famous designer, Manolo Blahnik himself, says: You should always show off a little bit of toe cleavage. Not only is it, well, trendy and subtly sexy, but a low-cut shoe also elongates the leg, making it look thinner -- which is the key to How Not to Look Fat in Flats.
Well, you won't be seing any cleavage in my shoes whatsoever...

I'm not smoking, not even at parties anymore, but still, living and biking around in Copenhagen probably gives me more black lungs, than a heavy smoker from the countryside... Even worse, I live very close to the most polluted area in Copenhagen and I bike along a very high-traffic road on my way to work. So... what can I do? One of my friends bought this mask to protect herself in the traffic, so far the reactions have been laughter, finger pointing and people asking if she had asthma... Her mother also gave her a cycle helmet, but that got a little too spacey for her with both... Anyway, she doesn't wear it that often, I guess Copenhagen is not ready for that yet. I know I'm not. I would prefer polluted lungs to wearing that mask, unfortunately!

What happened to the old days, where you would pick up a hulahop-ring, and spin it around your body, as if you were born to do it?? Recently I cleared my ceiling and found a hulahop-ring. I thought it would be good fun to use if for work-out, ha! Not very funny, when you bring together all your talents and effort, and only manage to spin it poor 7 rounds around your waist (and that was higest score)... However I must have been confident in my abilities to improve, cause I made a bet with my boyfriend (photo above... even worse than me, hehe) about being able to make at least 40 rounds before the 17th of May... And if I can do it not looking too stupid there's an extra bonus...

The 5th of April I turned 33. I celebrated my Birthday with my mother, her boyfriend and my boyfriend in a summer cottage in the north of Denmark. Very nice and relaxing. Ever since I've been kind of celebrated every time I see one of my friends.
Sunday I got the above present from Vibe (the nicest clay candle stick) and yesterday Hovesan gave me a fine lamp from R.O.O.M. and the most fantastic gingerbread woman full of sweets, that she had baked for me -delicious! I'm so sad I didn't think of taking a photo of it...
Anyway, I can totally recommend not celebrating your Birthday all at once, but instead spread it out over a month or two...

I just love them... They are great to watch, because they have so many facial expressions and a funny body language (just like humans)... I have spent hours watching dogs (and humans), making stories in my mind about their actions and doings. I can especially recommend Christiania (the self-governing free town in Copenhagen) where there is extremely many mixed-breed dogs as a consequence of the dogs running freely around with no chains or dog collar.

Ugly Dummies

Almost every day I pass these two charming dummies, and they kind of give me the creeps. I guess it's the combination of the hideous adult-clothing for kids, the colours, the fabric and the small blank faces of the dummies... not to mention the oldschool window display and the actual shop packed with... well, anything actually. I just don't get it, how can that attract customers? It effects my mood negative just passing by, so I cannot imagine how it would effect me going in... or even worse, working there... Funny thing is, it has been there for years and survived lots of much nicer stores, so they must be on to something!!!

YES!! Spring has for sure arrived in Copenhagen. You can see it in the smiling faces of people everywhere. How can anyone NOT be happy today? I love this season. It's the beginning of several of months buzzing with outdoor activities and hopefully lots of sun.

I also loved this little red air balloon, that passed me on my way home from work... It must have been a nice view. A nice way to kick start Spring. Last year me and my friend Hovesan kick started same season with an outdoor bike-bar-crawl around Copenhagen's beach/dock/harbor bars and joints...

Yesterday we discovered, that our gently hand-picked Hotel turned out to be "A hooker hangout pretending to be a hotel, the perfect crime scene for Law & Order" (one of the reviews said)... another one wrote about bedbugs and rooms rented by the hour...
Okay, I must admit that the price was one of (if not THE) main reason for picking that Hotel, so today we started all over looking for another place to stay. Only to discover that many of the good and "cheap" hotels were already booked!!!! PANIC! Anyway, we ended up booking "the Queen"-room (I like the sound of that) at the Pod Hotel.

I think we'll definitely go for the Comfort and Convenience Hotel at the bottom... And I'll like to underline that it has nothing to do with the fact, that it's 1/5th the price... ;o)

It's now more than a week ago that the police cleared "Ungdomshuset" at Nørrebro, and after a number of demonstrations, vandalization and fights between the police and the autonomous, all there is left of it, is an empty, but very well-visited, building site. It has lots of graffiti, flowers, banners, letters, teddy bears, mourning autonomous, and of cause curious people, who had to see with their own eyes, that "Ungdomshuset" is really gone.
I was not a user of the house, but I'm also sad that it's gone. I like diversity in my neighbourhood and "Ungdomshuset" definitely contributed to that... I hope the young ones will keep "fighting" for a new house, but without causing criminal damage...

habit 1 - be proactive

habit 2 - begin with the end in mind
Covey calls this the habit of personal leadership - leading oneself that is, towards what you consider your aims. By developing the habit of concentrating on relevant activities you will build a platform to avoid distractions and become more productive and successful.

habit 3 - put first things first
Covey calls this the habit of personal management. This is about organising and implementing activities in line with the aims established in habit 2. Covey says that habit 2 is the first, or mental creation; habit 3 is the second, or physical creation.

habit 4 - think win-win
Covey calls this the habit of interpersonal leadership, necessary because achievements are largely dependent on co-operative efforts with others. He says that win-win is based on the assumption that there is plenty for everyone, and that success follows a co-operative approach more naturally than the confrontation of win-or-lose.

So I bought this fantastic nice orchid. Furthermore I got some branches, they are supposed to bloom with sweet pink flowers. Isn't it just nice??
